This unit provides a wide-ranging introduction to the concepts, theories, methods, and application of Geographical Information Systems and Science.

This unit deals with core concepts of GIS, relating to the representation, analysis and visualisation of geographical information

This unit will provide students with an appreciation of how spatial data are created and sourced to meet the requirements of different geospatial applications, and how error and uncertainty can impact upon data quality.

Spatial data is key to any GIS project.  This unit investigates how spatial data is sourced and assessed against recognised standards.

This unit will provide the student with a solid foundation in the theory and practice of databases in general and spatial databases in particular.

Desktop GIS packages are increasingly looking like the specialist packages for serious users that, in truth, they always were. Now, for the very large majority of people who really only want to look at the location of things, we can offer WebGIS systems that deliver what they need directly into their web-browsers. This unit explains the concepts and methods of Internet GIS, development and its applications. Key elements of the curriculum include: From Desktop to Distributed GI Services; Technologies in Distributed GIS; Building the GeoWeb; Tutorials.
